Usually from one of the larger firms these people will give you an independent business review, because you will ask them to do so - because the bank has told you to and given you a persuasive account of why it is a good thing - whether you think so or not. Normally of course they don't give it to you - they tell the bank how much they want and that gets charged to your account. The fact that they probably do a number of these reviews for the bank because they're on a panel and the fact that they derive a reasonably substantial income from this work will not, of course, affect their independence.

Now independence in the professional sense is in the eye of the beholder so why not in these circumstances instruct us to advise you on what is best for you - then you know where you stand.
